Tenerife - Canary Islands on a world map - a paradise or an unattractive place?

In the Atlantic Ocean there is an archipelago of volcanic origin called the Canary Islands, owned by the Kingdom of Spain and consisting of seven large inhabited islands and many small ones. Where is Tenerife on the world map?

In the very center of the Canary Islands is the largest in area and the most populated of the whole group of Tenerife island. Tenerife on the world map can be recognized by the unusual shape of the contour, resembling a ham. The area of \u200b\u200bthe island is about 2000 km2, a population of 900 thousand people. The capital of the island is the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Map of Tenerife.

Interesting to know!  Tenerife is called a miniature continent, since it has more than one climatic zone, hence the incredible differences in climate, vegetation and wildlife, and relief. The island is divided in the middle by a mountain range that divides it into northern and southern parts.

North Tenerife is colder, strong winds blow here and the air temperature is always lower than in the south. However, this is just a paradise for vegetation - the plant world is diverse and unique. This part of the island is more for hiking trails, sightseeing and excursions. There are many ancient towns with amazing colorful streets and a huge number of attractions - both natural and created by human hand.

North Tenerife.

The southern part is characterized by warm and dry weather, wonderful equipped beaches with black volcanic sand, which washes the Atlantic, and well-developed infrastructure.

Which part of Tenerife to choose for your vacation - South or North

One of the largest and most famous resorts in the south of Tenerife is Las Americas. It was created specifically for tourists and is considered one of the largest and most popular resorts; beaches are well equipped here; there is a pedestrian promenade with many clubs, discos and restaurants. Having bought a tour and having come here, tourists will probably hear not only Spanish, but also Russian, as many Russians have a rest here.

Near Las Americas is another resort - Los Cristianos - the old city. It will be nice to stroll along the colorful Spanish narrow streets with pastry shops and fruit shops, enjoy coffee in an outdoor cafe and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere. However, this place is better to consider for walking, you should not stay here for a large number of days, since only one hotel is built here, and the beaches are located near the port and far enough to swim there daily.

A little to the north of Las Americas and Los Cristianos Tenerife is the town of Arona, it is slightly less popular, but, nevertheless, has a well-developed infrastructure and beaches with all amenities. The most popular resorts of Arona are Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas. They are known for the fact that you can dive here and do water sports.

Next to Arona in Tenerife is a picturesque place of San Miguel de Abona, which is given the status of cultural heritage. Here are various attractions - the Church of the Holy Archangel Michael, the house-museum "El Capitan", the house in which Juan Betancourt was born.

If you wish, you can visit the San Blas Ecological Reserve, which has great natural value, and the Yellow Mountain nature monument, which are very popular among tourists. This resort will not leave fans of golf indifferent; there are two wonderful courses here - Golf de Sur and Amarilla Golf. As well as in Aron, this resort offers water and underwater sports in the sports port of La Marina San Miguel.

Moving strictly north from this resort, you can get to the highest mountain village of Tenerife - Vilaflor. There is no access to the sea, but, despite this, a huge number of tourists arrive here daily. Since this place has clean mountain air and the corresponding climate, most tourists come here for recovery, especially many visitors visit this place with a respiratory system disease. There are healing springs with mineral water in Vilaflor.

Routes created for visitors are laid along trails previously used by the Guanche tribes - the inhabitants of the island - to drive cattle through a narrow steep valley to a pasture.

On the territory of Vilaflora there are several nature reserves, a rich place and historical heritage.

Enjoy in seclusion will allow a small resort in the south of Tenerife Playa Paraiso, which in translation means "Paradise Beach". There are only four multi-story hotels in the center on the coast, a couple of shops and several night discos. However, if you can enjoy the silence here, it’s unlikely that the oceans, despite the name of the resort, since the coast is rocky and calling into the ocean is not very convenient.

In the southeastern part of the island is the fishing city of Las Galletas with a black beach of sand of volcanic origin, it is removed from the main tourist areas - this is a place for a more relaxing holiday. Heading north of Tenerife, you first get to Candelaria - the city of pilgrims, where the main attraction is the Candelaria Basilica - the Catholic Church, and then to the capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife itself.

Port in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

When traveling around the island, one cannot help but look into the medieval village of Santiago del Teide, founded in the 16th century, which is interesting for its history and traditions. A baroque church of San Fernando, which was built in the 17th century, is a must. The church attracts tourists with its mysterious architecture and beautiful painting inside.

This place is also famous for the fact that it is from here that the narrow-gauge serpentine begins to the village of Mask, which is located in the upper part of the famous Maska Gorge in Tenerife at an altitude of about 600 meters. It is one of the deepest in Tenerife, and the route, daily visited by tourists from different countries from the upper part to the ocean, is approximately 9 kilometers - this is a whole obstacle path, here you have to jump over rivers and climb rocks. Therefore, on the eve have a good rest, and before the gorge, have the courage and patience.

If you want to enjoy a relaxing holiday and improve your body, then you should visit the city of Bahamar. Bahamar is a small fishing village located in the northern part of Tenerife. This is a coastal secluded place with mountainous areas, with unique natural pools and picturesque massifs of Anaga Park.

For lovers of untouched nature, the island of La Gomera is a must to visit, the tourist infrastructure is extremely poorly developed, however, here is one of the most significant sights of the Canary Islands - Garahonai National Park, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Here you can see a giant baobab, relict-heather grove, three-meter dandelions, extensive palm plantations and much more. You can get here by ferry from Tenerife.

What to take on your trip will depend on the purpose for which you go there. If you plan to just lie on the beach, swim and sunbathe, then there will be one set of things, if you count on a more active vacation, then the other, if you visit expensive restaurants - the third.

However, those and other travelers will have the same list of documents: passport, visa, insurance. It will not be superfluous to know that upon arrival at the airport they will let you fill out a migration card, in which you will need to provide your details in detail.

Important!  Save the torn off part of the migration card until the end of the trip, as it will need to be shown on the way back at the airport.

Spain is a wonderful, amazing and attractive tourist destination in Europe. When traveling, I want to cover everything at once - to visit both the island and the continental, but this, as a rule, is problematic. To decide - open a simple school atlas, look at the Canary Islands, see where and in what an amazing place on the world map Tenerife is - pack your suitcase and boldly go on vacation and you will not regret your choice even for a second. And as the Spaniards say - Bienvenida!

In addition, the main tourist resorts are concentrated precisely on the south coast, which guarantee the best long sandy beaches that meet all the highest requirements, excellent equipment, comfortable hotels for every taste and budget, and first-class service.
